Barnett Fit by Model: Bolts and Strings

Note the pairs that catch people out: Raptor and Hyper Raptor, Ghost and Hyper Ghost, XP400 and Hyper XP405. In each pair the plain model takes Headhunter and the Hyper model takes Hyperflite.

For bolts: find your model, read the family, then pick the length your bow shipped with. Family is not negotiable. Length is set by the rail and the model - see bolts for the full explanation of why.

For strings: the length in the table is what the replacement strings sold for that bow are cut to. If your crossbow has been restrung before, do not trust the model name - measure what is currently on it, loop to loop under light tension, and order to your measurement. Aftermarket string makers list by length as well as by model, so a measurement is always sufficient.

Where the table says set: the parts for that model are generally sold as a string and cables together rather than as a bare string. On an older bow that is the better buy anyway, because cables stretch alongside the string.

Two honest limitations.

First, Barnett has produced variants under the same model name across different years, and occasionally the string length changed with them. The Whitetail Hunter line in particular has several variants. Where your bow does not match the table, your own measurement wins.

Second, this table covers bolts and strings - the two wear items that account for most parts purchases. It does not cover structural parts. Limbs, cams, trigger assemblies and stocks are model-specific and are not made aftermarket, so once manufacturer stock runs out for a discontinued model there is no substitute. If something structural has failed, get the bow assessed before spending on consumables for it.

If the model is not listed or you suspect a previous restring, measure rather than guess:

1. De-cock the bow and make sure it is unloaded.
2. Measure from the inside of one end loop to the inside of the other, following the string, with the string under its normal tension on the bow rather than slack on a bench.
3. Record to the nearest sixteenth of an inch. Half an inch of error gives you a string that either will not fit the limb tips or sets the wrong brace height.
4. Measure the cables separately if you are ordering a set - on the Whitetail Hunter STR, for example, the cables are 20.8125 inches against a 38.125 inch string.
